Dream Inspire Dance
Once Upon A Ballet
Why Choose
Once Upon A Ballet?
Once Upon a Ballet is a cutting-edge dance studio situated off Long Point Road in Mt. Pleasant.
Founded in 2004, OUAB started as an innovative ballet program that brought dance to preschools across Charleston’s peninsula and East Cooper, including Daniel Island and James Island. The program was designed to lay a strong foundation for young dancers while igniting their passion and imagination, ensuring each class was filled with the joy of ballet movement.
This vision was brought to life by founder Allyson Lewis, who developed over 60 pre-ballet curriculums. She incorporated theatrical elements such as classical music, elegant costumes, delicate props, and supportive literature, allowing even the tiniest dancers to perform a new STORYBALLET each week.
As the school flourished, so did its dancers. The current facility features three dance studios. Today, the school instructs over 350 students in a variety of dance styles, primarily ballet, while expanding its curriculum to include classes in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Modern, and Hip Hop for ages 2 to 16, from beginner to advanced levels. Additionally, its sister school, the Musical Theater Center, offers both recreational and professional conservatory classes and is home to an award-winning troupe of young actors, dancers, and singers aged 5 to 16. The non-profit theater production company at MTC produces eight different musicals each year for family audiences.
